Start of my AECP journey and Altenew June 2021 Challenge
I have some news….I have been accepted byAltenew to join the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP). There are many classes and levels that I need to complete. For the first level, I need to complete 10 of the Altenew Academy classes and create ten projects that inspire me from these classes.
This is my first post on AECP submissions and it is from the first two classes that I have completed - All About Layering 1 and For the Guys.
I am also entering both these cards - a gal and guy card - for the June 2021 Altenew Challenge, where the colour combination can be used for either a his or her card.
Let’s get started…do watch the video below on how I create these cards.
The first card is for the All About Layering 1. There is a ton of stamping online classes on the Altenew Academy website that’s free, so why not have a look. Check it out here.
For my first card, the main stamp I use is the Altenew Rose Spray Stamp Set. I chose crisp dye inks from Altenew to match the challenge - Sea Breeze, Turquoise and Tide Blue (part of the Deep Blue Seas set) and Butternut and Pumpkin Pie (part of the Fall Harvest set) to match the colours in the June 2021 colour challenge.
Two things that this class reminded me of was multi generation stamping and heat embossing one of the layers. I employ the latter technique in my card.
Cut down 110lbs Neenah Solar White card to a dimension smaller than an A2 card size (4.25” by 5.5”). Using a MISTI Stamping Platform I stamped the Altenew Rose Spray Stamp Set with Altenew’s crisp dye inks Deep Blue Seas set and Fall Harvest set.
For some of the final layers of the flowers, stamp with Versamark ink and sprinkle with embossing powders, Cosmic Shimmer Embossing Powder Aqua Blush Blaze, Ranger Super Fine White Embossing Powder, and Purple Gerbil Craft & Hobby Sapphire Blue Embossing Powder.
Back the stamped panel with fun foam and adhere with double-sided tape to a top folding white A2 sized card for some dimension.
However after adhering the fun foamed backed stamped panel to the white card stock, I did not like the look of it and decided to rectify it by putting a light blue frame on the card. That looked much better.
Finally, I added some tiny faux pearl gems to the centres of the flowers and added a double line sentiment from the Altenew Label Love stamp set with Versafine Onyx Black ink.
The second card is one For the Guys and I use Altnew’s Fine Alphabet Dies, Parlor Palm Die Set and A Love for Stripes Set C Paper Pack. I was inspired by shapes in the masculine cards by Jen Rzasa. As I did not have any geometric shaped stamps from Altenew (though I did have geometric shaped dies…but that only came to mind after I created this card - oh well, next time) I decided to use the colour striped paper pack. I chose the three colours that matched the colour challenge.
I think cards for guys should be simple and clean. So I cut the copier paper to slightly smaller than an A7 card (5” by 7”). The striped paper is adhered to the copier paper, a third for each of the three chosen papers - this was adhered with double-sided tape.
Then I die cut the Parlor Palm Die Set with vellum and the Fine Alphabet Dies with black card to spell out the sentiment ‘Happy Father’s Day’. The die set did not have an apostrophe, so I ‘borrowed’ it from another alphabet die set that I had in my craft stash. I cut out the alphabet set another four times in neutral coloured card. I adhered three of the layers behind the black alphabet die cut for some dimension.
The fourth set of the alphabet die cut in neutral card I adhered to the striped paper panel with liquid glue to spell the sentiment, ‘Happy Father’s Day’, on three lines. I started adhering the alphabets by starting with the middle alphabet to ensure that the spacing is centralised on each line.
After that I adhered the vellum over the sentiment. Then added the layered alphabet die cuts that were black, so it would be a contrast. After that I inked white paper with crisp die ink ‘turquoise’ and ‘ pumpkin pie’, then die cut from the Parlor Palm Die Set and adhered over the vellum die cut.
Finally, I added some colourless dew drops on the card, backed the panel with fun foam and adhered to a black A7 card.
That’s it now for my first submission for the AECP journey. Thank you for stopping by and do leave me a comment below if you have a query or just what to leave a note.
Have a lovely day.
