Faux Embossing

This post shows how I make a couple of cards that looks embossed but I do not use an embossing folder, instead I use dies. I make these cards for my nieces who live in Singapore. You can make a faux embossing card with any dies (word dies, flower dies etc.) that you have in your stash. The hugs die that I use in this video is from Winnie & Walter, In A Word: Hugs Cutaway. Unfortunately Winnie & Walter closed its doors in 2019.

Do check out the video below.

How to make the bookmarks and pocket for bookmark:

Bookmark

  1. The bookmarks are from here.

  2. Smoosh some distress oxide inks on a non-porous surface and spritz with water liberally.

  3. Place bookmark on these inks until you get the combination of colours you want. If you want to layer the colours, let first layer of colour dry before next colour is added.

  4. Then prep bookmark for heat embossing with anti-static powder.

  5. Stamp Penny Black Sympathy Sentiments with Altenew Obsidian Pigment ink and sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder and melt embossing powder with heat tool.

  6. Stamp Altenew Paint-A-Flower Calla Lily with Altenew Obsidian Pigment ink and sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder and melt embossing powder with heat tool.

Pocket for bookmark

  1. Cut card to dimensions of 3.25” by 4.25”.

  2. Score three sides (both lengths and one width) by a quarter inch.

  3. Cut the unscored top at and angle - this will be the top of the pocket.

  4. Stamp sentiment from Penny Black Sympathy Sentiments and flower from Altenew Paint-A-Flower Calla Lily onto the front of the pocket.

  5. Fold the card on the scored sides and add liquid glue or thin double-sided tape.

  6. Adhere pocket to left inside panel of the card to hold the bookmark.

  7. Learn to make tassel of bookmark here.
