This post shows how I create many cards with Altenew 3D Embossing Folders. The main Altenew 3D Embossing Folders are:

Majestic Bloom

Mega Succulent

Flowers & Leaves

Decorative Florals

Spring Blossoms

Book Cover Engravings

Watch how I create these cards in the video below:

Steps to achieve crisp embossing images with embossing folders.

Basic embossing

  1. Cut card panel to 4.5” by 5.75”, which is a quarter inch larger in the width and length from an A2 card size. [This will accommodate the embossing folds and allow to fit onto an A2 sized card measuring 4.25” by 5.5”.]

  2. Spray water on both sides of the card panel to soften the card fibres.

  3. Insert card panel into the embossing folder. [Arrange card in folder to capture the image that you want to embossed on the card panel.]

  4. Put the embossing folder through a die cutting machine following the manufacturer’s instructions for a 3D embossing folder [which is different than a 2D embossing folder as these embossing folders are of different thicknesses.]

  5. Leave card panel in embossing folder to dry so it will dry straight [put a heavy object on the embossing folder, if required.]

  6. Remove embossed card from embossing folder once dry after about and hour or two.

  7. Trim embossed card panel to 4.25” by 5.5”.

Watercolour card

  1. Cut watercolour card panel to 4.5” by 5.75”, which is a quarter inch larger in the width and length from an A2 card size.

  2. Brush plain water on the watercolour card panel [follow rough pattern of a chosen embossing folder].

  3. Place watercolour pigments on parts where the plain water was placed on watercolour card. Repeat until watercolour pigment fills all areas on the watercolour card panel with chosen embossing folder.

  4. Insert watercolour card while still wet into embossing folder.

  5. Put the embossing folder through a die cutting machine following the manufacturer’s instructions for a 3D embossing folder [which is different than a 2D embossing folder as these embossing folders are of different thicknesses.]

  6. Leave card panel in embossing folder to dry so it will dry straight [put a heavy object on the embossing folder, if required.]

  7. Remove embossed card from embossing folder once dry after about and hour or two.

  8. Trim embossed card panel to 4.25” by 5.5”.

Multiple coloured card panel

  1. Cut thin card or copy paper to 4.5” by 5.75”, which is a quarter inch larger in the width and length from an A2 card size.

  2. Attach coloured card onto the copy paper panel and trim to 4.5” by 5.75”.

  3. Spray water on both sides of the card panel to soften the card fibres.

  4. Insert card panel into the embossing folder. [Arrange card in folder to capture the image that you want to embossed on the card panel.]
