Clean, Simple & Quick Card

This post is for a card I created for two challenges - the Clean and Simple Challenge #61 at the Unicorn Challenge Blog and the Animals Challenge #146 at the Male Room Challenge Blog.

I like taking part in challenges as it get me out of my comfort zone, allows me to think outside the box and use up the products that I have amassed over the years! I have a video on how I created this card, so please have a look.

DAWN SKY CARD

DUSK SKY CARD

This card was made with a border die of sea gulls that I received as a gift from a friend but cannot find it. You could however try this with border dies you may have in your stash.

In the slideshow of cards above I include the stock picture of the dawn and dusk sky colours that I got from the internet. This is my first foray into ink blending sky colours. Intend to do more of this for future cards.

I used Ranger Distress Inks to create (what I thought looked like) dawn sky - inks used were Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Fosilized Amber, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Stormy Sky and Chipped Sapphire. You can get Ranger Distress Inks at Simon Says Stamp for those closer to or in the US or Seven Hills Crafts for those close to or in the UK.

For the dusk sky card I used Ranger Distress Inks as well - in this order, Antique Linen, Tattered Rose, Seedless Preserves, Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot.

After ink blending, I sprayed the background with some generic hairspray to seal the ink, so that it will not be ruined by the moisture in one’s hand when handling the card. However when I went outside to spray the card, I did not realise that it was raining lightly and the dawn sky card was splattered by rain drops (remember these distress inks react to water) - splatter technique by nature!

Then I die cut the border gulls die on white card and propped in up with some white foam for dimension. I also die cut extra gulls and adhered them directly onto the ink blended sky and lifted the wings of the gulls to give some dimension again.

I used a very Hero Arts sentiment, Essential Messages birthday greetings.

I hoped you managed to watch the video. If you enjoyed the video, please like the video and consider subscribing.

Here’s another card that I made with the background that had gone ‘wrong’ i.e. it did not look like a dawn sky, so I made it into another card.

Thank you for stopping by and do leave me a comment/query and have a lovely day.
