Christmas Cards with Ink Blending and Emboss Resist
This post shows the creation of three Christmas cards with Distress Oxide ink blending and emboss resist technique with the use of large sentiment dies. Keep in mind that the large sentiment dies can be replaced with alphabet dies. The three cards include a 2 for 1 card.
Check out the video below that shows how I created these cards.
Card #1 - Snow Much Love
Steps to create the card:
The background card panel is a Strathmore Bristol Smooth Paper and measures 4” by 5 1/4”. Note: This card is good for ink blending.
Apply the Distress Oxide ink in landscape orientation on the card panel in the order of Chipped Sapphire, Peacock Feathers, and Speckled Egg. Note: Use of a dome foam pad makes for easier ink blending.
Place the WAFFLE FLOWER Snowflake Background stencil on the ink blended card panel. Use damp cloth or stamp shammy and dab on stencil opening. The water will react with the distress oxide inks and leave a ghost mark of snowflakes.
Adhere snowflake die cuts on card panel and add the ‘Snow Much Love’ die cut sentiment from the last post (check it out) in the centre of the ink blended card panel in landscape orientation.
Attach card with double-sided tape to an A2 side folding card panel and adhere Pinkfresh Studio Metallic Silver pearls with Art Glitter Liquid Glue with fine metal tip using a Marvy Uchida Jewel Picker.
Card #2 & #3 - Oh So Jolly (2 for 1 card)
Steps to create the 2 for 1 cards:
Cut two panels of Strathmore Bristol Smooth Paper measuring 4 1/2” square.
Stamp the snowman image from Inkadinkadoo Filigree Snowman stamp with Versamark ink, sprinkle with Ranger Super Fine White Embossing Powder and melt embossing powder with WOW Dual Speed Heat Tool. Note: A stamping tool should be used for the stamping as the image must be stamped in exactly the same spot on both card panels for this 2 for 1 card to work.
Apply distress oxide inks with dome foam pad and ink blending tool to card panel with heat embossed image. Use distress oxide inks for each of the card panels in the following order:
(i) Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers, Chipped Sapphire
(ii) Tattered Rose, Festive Berries, Seedless Preserves
This is the emboss resist technique as the embossed areas will resist the ink applied on it.
After the ink blending, wipe embossed areas on card panel with a dry cloth to remove excess ink and reveal the white embossed areas.
Align both cards and hold them together with temporary tape on the side. Place MAMA ELEPHANT Big Oh So Jolly Creative Cuts die in middle of card panel and adhere with temporary tape before putting through die cutting machine.
As it is cutting through two cards, only the first layer will cut through wholly. However the impression of the die would be on the second card. Slot the die back onto the impression of the second card put through the die cutting machine again.
When removing the die cut, keep all the little die cuts that fall out, as it will be required.
Swap the die cuts around so the red sentiment die cut is slotted into the blue background card panel and vice versa. All the tiny bits of die cuts that fell out should be inserted into the card panel in between the sentiment so the background looks seamless.
Before adhering the inked sentiment die cut, adhere three layers of sentiment die cuts in white cardstock that are adhered together. Slot this into the negative die cut after adhering the background panel onto a 5” square top folding white card.
Then adhere the other coloured inked sentiment die cut onto the layered sentiment die cuts in white cardstock.
Add Ranger Glossy Accents onto the die cut sentiment and a smattering of Raindrops embellishments from Lucy’s Shop on the card front with Art Glitter Liquid Glue with fine metal tip using a Marvy Uchida Jewel Picker.
