Altenew Level 2 AECP - Magical Marker Techniques

This post which includes a video shows how I create 5 cards inspired by the Altenew Level 2, Magical Marker Techniques online class by Sara Naumann for the Altenew Educator Certification Program. It is part of the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) for Level 2 and this is my last submission for this level [exciting!]. The technique I employed for the cards is ‘ink smooshing’ with alchol markers with the aid of isoprpyl alcohol. It’s fun and fast with impressive results. The online class by Sara Naumann was enlightening as I learned a few new techniques, one of which I applied in the cards created for this post.

Do check out the video below.

Steps to Create the Cards

  1. Use a craft sheet to protect you work surface as alcohol markers stain.

  2. Choose complementary colors of artist alcohol markers and scribble on craft sheet.

  3. Decant isopropyl alcohol into a mini mister spray and spray onto artist alcohol markers scribbles.

  4. Smoosh the glossy side of the alcohol ink card onto the ink on the craft sheet. Spray isopropyl alcohol onto craft sheet and scribble extra ink as you see fit.

  5. Stamp with embossing ink or black pigment ink onto glossy side of the alcohol ink card with ink smooshed pattern.

  6. Sprinkle embossing powder (I used clear, white, and gold) and heat emboss with heat tool (pre-heat tool for 30-40 seconds) initially from the back of the card and then the front. Remember to keep moving tool so the glossy card does not warp.

  7. Colour images directly with artist alcohol markers or create a pallette on craft sheet by scribbling alcohol marker on craft sheet and dipping a paint brush in isopropyl alcohol to activate marker scribbles of alcohol marker on craft sheet before applying to image on alcohol ink card.

  8. Trim card and attach to card base and add a sentiment.

  9. Use STAZON Jet Black Ink to stamp directly onto glossy side of alcohol ink card.

  10. View video above to see these steps.
