Pine Stencilled Christmas Cards - 3 levels of difficulty

This post which includes a video shows how I use the Altenew Classic Pine Stencil to create three cards for the Altenew Nov 2022 Inspiration Challenge. The first card is for the beginner crafter, the second card is for the slightly experienced crafter, and the third card is for the more experienced crafter.

The Altenew Nov 2022 Inspiration Challenge is based on the colours below:

Card #1, for the beginner crafter

Attach a Neenah Solar Crest White 80lb card to Wendy Vecchi Make Art Stay-tion overlaid with Altenew Classic Pine Stencil. Utilise a small blending brush and mini blending brush to apply ink on the two layered stencil. Ink colours used are Icy Water, Winter Lake, Pumpkin Pie, and Espresso.

Optional: Align pine images to the pines stencil and run through embossing machine with the appropriate ‘sandwich’ for your machine. Note: Remember not to force it but use the required shims to achieve an impression on the card panel.

Cut down stencilled and embossed card panel to fit to an A6 card (measuring 10.5cm by 14.8cm). Adhere fun foam to back of card panel and adhere with double-sided tape to a side-folding A6 base card.

Stamp Pinkfresh Studio Perfect Sentiments Holiday with clear embossing ink, sprinkle Pure White embossing powder, and melt embossing powder with a heat tool. Utilise a stamping platform to align the sentiment and die cut with the coordinating die. Die cut an additional die cut to layer the sentiment. Adhere the layers with liquid glue and attach to card front. Finally attach Pinkfresh Studio Metallic Gold pearls on the card front with liquid glue with its’ fine point and a gem picker tool.

Card #2, for the slightly experienced crafter

Attach a Neenah Solar Crest White 80lb card to Wendy Vecchi Make Art Stay-tion overlaid with Altenew Classic Pine Stencil. Utilise a small blending brush and mini blending brush to apply ink on the branch layer of the stencil with Altenew Crisp Dye Ink Caribbean Sky, and Persian Blue.

Then adhere the second stencil of the pine to the card panel with low tack tape and apply Lunar Paste Slippery When Wet with a spatula. Leave to dry for at least an hour. Then apply shadow to the pines with Altenew Watercolor Brush Marker Tree Bark from the Autumn Festival set. Note: Best to release the Tree Bark pigment from the watercolor brush marker onto a non-porous surface and apply the shadows for the pines with a paint brush and water.

Cut down stencilled and embossed card panel to fit to an A6 card (measuring 10.5cm by 14.8cm). Adhere fun foam to back of card panel and adhere with double-sided tape to a side-folding A6 base card.

Apply Altenew Watercolor Brush Marker Tree Bark onto watercolor card, large enough for the sentiment.

Card #3, for the more experienced crafter

Attach a brown card from The Paper Boutique Under The Mistletoe Paper Pad to Wendy Vecchi Make Art Stay-tion overlaid with Altenew Classic Pine Stencil, branch stencil. Utilise a small blending brush to apply Altenew Crisp Dye Ink Dark Chocolate on the branch layer of the stencil.

Use Altenew Rounded Rectangles Die to cut out a rectangle in the middle of the stencilled card panel. This die cut is to create a shaker card. Then line up the branch stencil on the card panel and run through Embossing Machine with appropriate ‘sandwich’. Note: Yes, stencils can be used to get a subtle embossing on stencilled image.

Attach the die cut rectangle to the die cut panel from the back with masking tape. Place the second stencil of pines on the card panel and attach to card from the back with masking tape. For this layer use Lunar Paste Clear Skies, apply over stencil with a spatula. Note: Wash stencil and spatula immediately or soak in soapy water so the paste does not harden and ruin stencil and spatula. Once the Lunar Paste dries, remove the die cut rectangle which was temporarily adhered to back of card panel.

Now to attach the rectangle to the base card. Place card panel with die cut retangle on base card and then adhere the die cut rectangle to the base card with double-sided tape.

Cut out from plastic packaging, a rectangle larger than the die cut rectangle and attach to the back of the die cut card panel - this is the beginning of the shaker elements! Then cover the back of the card panel with double-sided tape to attach fun foam - remember to use the same sized Altenew Rounded Rectangles Die and die cut the fun foam before attaching to back of card panel.

Carefully place some gold glitter onto the die cut rectangle (not too much, I may have got carried away!). Before placing the card panel onto the card base (with the gold glitter on the die cut rectangle) use an anti-static bag on the inside of the plastic covering the die cut rectangle. This is to ensure that the glitter does not stick to the plastic. There’s the shaker element of the card done. Now to complete the card.

Apply shadow to the pines with Altenew Watercolor Brush Marker Desert Night from the Tropical Fiesta set. Note: Best to release the Desert Night pigment from the watercolor brush marker onto a non-porous surface and apply the shadows for the pines with a paint brush and water.

Apply Altenew Crisp Dye Ink Dark Chocolate onto white card, large enough for the sentiment.
