Easy cards & 3 ways to seal distress inks

This post which includes a video shows how I create four cards with two bonus cards as well as three ways to seal distress ink s and distress oxide inks. I primarily use two large sentiment dies, My Favorite Things Big Birthday Wishes die, Lawn Fawn Giant Sending Big Hugs, and Avery Elle Happy Birthday die; and for the backgrounds, I use Lawn Fawn’s Simple Stripes dies - Portrait, Landscape, and Diagonal.

The optimal card to use for inking is Strathmore Bristol Smooth Card, 300 Series.

Three ways to to seal distress inks and distress oxide inks:

  1. Spray clear water onto inked panel - use Water spray to achieve a fine mist of water

  2. Sprinkle Crystal Clear Crisp Embossing Powder on inked panel and melt embossing powder with heat tool

  3. Apply Ranger Distress Micro Glaze onto inked panel that has dried a little. This glaze is an ideal water-resistant sealer for all of your craft projects. The Micro Glaze dries to a smudge resistant and waterproof finish.

Card #1

Die cut Strathmore Bristol Smooth Card, 300 Series with Lawn Fawn Simple Stripes - Portrait and ink with Ranger Distress Oxide Ink. Colours used are Mowed Lawn, Lucky Clover, Evergreen Bough, Salvaged Patina, Peacock Feathers, Unchartered Mariner, and Prize Ribbon.

Sentiment die used is My Favorite Things Big Birthday Wishes. The sentiment was adhered to the card by using the negative of the die cut as a guide to ensure the letters are spaced correctly.

This card was created for my older son’s birthday and I added the sentiment ‘dear son’ from Simon Says Stamp Family Headline stamp, stamped with Obsidian Pigment Ink.

Card #2

Die cut Strathmore Bristol Smooth Card, 300 Series with Lawn Fawn Simple Stripes - Landscape and ink with Ranger Distress Oxide Ink. Colours used are Fired Brick, Rusty Hinge, Fossilized Amber, Broken China, and Peacoc Feathers.

Die cut a white card with Waffle Flower Crafts - Additional A2 Layers, smaller than A2 size (4.25” by 5.5”). Centralise the My Favorite Things Big Birthday Wishes die onto the rectangle white card die cut and put through the die cutting machine. The positive die cuts are used in Card #1.

Attach Clear Double Sided Adhesive Roll - 1/8 Inch x 81 Feet to back of die cut to adhere acetate or clear packaging. Then attach Double Sided Adhesive Foam Strips on the back of the acetate or clear packaging for depth to accommodate shaker embellishments. Place shaker embellishments just under the word ‘big’, remove foam strip backing and attach to card panel.

This card was created for my older son’s birthday and I added the sentiment ‘you’re the best brother’ from Simon Says Stamp Family Headline stamp, stamped with Obsidian Pigment Ink. My younger son gave this card to his big brother.

Card #3

Die cut Strathmore Bristol Smooth Card, 300 Series with Lawn Fawn Simple Stripes - Diagonal and ink with Ranger Distress Oxide Ink. Colours used are Carved Pumpkin, Prize Ribbon, Salty Ocean, Rustic Wilderness, and Mowed Lawn.

Sentiment die used is Lawn Fawn Giant Sending Big Hugs. The sub-sentiment is from Altenew’s Sentiment Strips 3 Stamp. ‘On your birthday’ is an amalagamation from two different sentiments fromt this set. I mask off the words that I do not want with a cellophane tape and ink sentiment, remove cellophane tape and stamp on card using a stamping platform. This way I can create unique sentiments, stretching my sentiment stamp set.
