Altenew Level 2 AECP - Masking Unleashed

This post which includes a video shows how I create four cards inspired by the Altenew Level 2, Masking Unleashed online class for the Altenew Educator Certification Program. The online class by Svitlana Shayevich was fun and interesting.

I use positive and negative masking to ink blend the background and image respectively. Check out the video below.

General Tips

  1. Use the STRATHMORE Bristol Smooth Paper Pad (Series 300) card as it is perfect for ink blending.

  2. Heat emboss with clear embossing powder for all of the outline stamp images as ink belnding can be wiped off the embossed areas easily.

  3. Stencil removable adhesive, Schablonen-Kleber - Dries transparent and with sticky surface. It is excellent suitable for fixation of removable stencils. It is water-based and dries transparently. The stencil adhesive can be applied directly from the bottle or with a sponge and it develops its sticky properties after drying.

  4. Storage of Distress Oxide Inks. Per Ranger Ink FAQs: How should I store my Distress/Oxide Ink Pads? The molded plastic case is designed to create the proper fit needed for the ink formulation. Store your ink pads flat, bottom down or on the side. Check out my video on storage here

Card #1 - Hello

The card on the right is the card that I messed up by double stamping the outline image but misaligned the stamping. I wanted to stamp the outline image of the flowers again as the ink blending ‘dulled’ the dark grey outline of the stamp.

To overcome the ‘dulling effect’ stamp the outline image with a pigment ink and heat emboss with clear embossing powder. Any ink that lands on the embossed outline image can be wiped off with a dry cloth.

Card #2 - Happy Birthday

Card #3 - Friends are our chosen Family

I did not like the card on the right as the ink ‘ran’ and the ink blending of the Sapphire and Villainous Potion inks were too dark. I wanted to see if the ‘hello’ sentiment would hide the deficiencies - but it did not! So I made another card with a rainbow of colours.

Card #4 - Hope Your Day is Fab

Thank you for stopping by and do leave a comment if you have a query or if you just want to say hi. Have a lovely day.
