Altenew: A Year In Review: Crafters’ Edition Blog Hop #2 + Giveaway

Welcome to the Altenew: A Year In Review: Crafters’ Edition Blog Hop #2, which includes a giveaway. You should be coming from the blog of Amy Hill. Do note that the blog hop commences at the Altenew Blog.

This blog hop is about crafter’s sharing their top 4 to 12 Altenew projects from this year, 2022. I am honoured to have the opportunity to share my favourite Altenew projects - the only problem was narrowing them down to the top 12! I have a video that shows how I create each of the projects, and will include the links below.

So here they are, in no particular order.

Top 12 Altenew Projects

#1 - Compact Storage Solution for Watercolour Brush Markers

I made this compact storage solution for all four of the Alternew Watercolor Brush Markers with the boxes that Altenew ink pad refills were delivered - yes, I ordered a lot of refills for most of the crisp dye ink pads that I own.

Four key aspects that I love about this project: (1) It’s an upcycle project (from my perspective), so good quality boxes, which are also pretty are not just thrown away; (2) It has the Altenew brand on the boxes which goes with the product that it stores; (3) It is compact (space saver), and keeps the four watercolor brush markers together; and (4) It includes a swatch of the colours, which is really useful when choosing colours to be used on a project.

To see how I created this compact storage, do check this blog post which includes a video and loads of process pictures.

#2 - Pegboard Canvas Stitching Die

I love stitching dies. This card is created using the Pegboard Canvas Die which I absolutely adore. The flowers and leaves cluster is die cut with the Rose Flurries 3D Die Set. DMC variegated thread is used.

#3 - CYLPK Always Sunshine

This card utilises the embossing folder and coordinating layered stencil from the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Always Sunshine. Detail blending brushes help with adding highlight colours to the folliage with the simple coloring stencil.

To see how I created this card, do check this blog post which includes a video and this card is shown from minute 12:31 in the video.

#4 - CAF Garden Rose

This card utilises the Craft-A-Flower: Garden Rose Layering Die Set. Rather than die cut components of the flowers in coloured card, I die cut all the separate dies in white card (that is conducive to ink blending) and then did some ink blending with dye inks using blending brushes.

#5 - Layered Ornate Floating Shaker (with foam)

This card utilises the Layered Ornate Frame Die Set. I did not use the frame that comes with the die set but only the flower dies.

To see how I created this card, do check this blog post which includes a video and this card is shown from minute 5:25 in the video.

#6 - Floral Doodle Rose Shaker (without foam)

This card utilises the Floral Doodles die set to create a shaker card without foam. Instead I attach multiple layers of the die cut for the requisite depth for a shaker card.

#7 - Timeless Tulips Mirror Image

This card utilises the Timeless Tulips Stamp, Die & Stencil Bundle. Mirror stamping is only one aspect of this card, as the image also requires using the coordinating die and simple coloring stencil set differently to colour and die cut the mirror image. I love getting more from products and look for different ways to use them.

#8 - Cross Stitching replica of Famous Painting on Pegboard Canvas Die

I love stitching dies and this framed representation of a famous painting is proof! This card is created using the Pegboard Canvas Die which I absolutely adore. I started with this particular painting as it’s one of my husband’s favourite paintings, so I decided to capture it in a frame and incorporate it as part of his birthday card from our younger son.

#9 - Summer Fun

This card utilises the Summer Love Mini Stamp & Die Bundle. I was not sure what to do with small stamps, so I paired it with the Bold Alphabet Die Set. Also created a water speckled bacckground to match the beach theme of the card. I love how this card turned out.

To see how I created this card, do check this blog post which includes a video, though I do not show how I make this card in the video, rather I talk through it. However, I do show how I make three other cards using these same small stamps and coordinating dies.

#10 - Happy Flowers

This card set utilises the Happy Flowers Stamp & Die Bundle and Leaf Mix Die Set. I love the use of Citrine card from the Gilded Glitter Cardstock Set to die cut elements of the Leaf Mix Die Set to add to the foliage of the floral arrangement. I added this card as I received a few queries when this stamp set was released (I was lucky enough to partake in the release) on how I created this card.

#11 - Leaf Mix Monochromatic

This paper piecing card utilises the Leaf Mix Die Set. Choose two shades of the same colour and die cut the ‘frame’ of the foliage in the lighter shade and in fill the darker shade. Cover entire card with different foliage from the Leaf Mix Die Set. Monochromatic cards always lend to an elegant finish.

#12 - Stencilled Masculine Card Set

I know this is not one card but a set. However I see this as one project and I love how it came out with the colour scheme I chose. The project above uses the following stencils: Leaf Bed, Bubble Wrap, Heart Builder, and Color Block Triangle. I like using stencils so much that I am also featuring stencils (however with different techniques) in my Level 3 Altenew Educator Certification Program workshop scheduled for 14 Jan 2023.
